Senior doctor's warning on NHS care in Scotland

A senior Scottish doctor has warned that NHS staff are being placed under "almost intolerable pressure".

Dr Neil Dewhurst, the outgoing president of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, has claimed cuts in the number of hospital beds, rising admissions and workforce shortages are undermining the quality of care.

The Scottish government has insisted that it has protected NHS budgets.
