Evicted Sutherland crofter: 'We're in the Clearances'

Absentee crofters being evicted for not using their land are considering taking their fight to the courts.

The Scottish government's crofting regulator has already begun terminating tenancies and said that in most cases amicable solutions were being found.

The policy has proved unpopular on the north coast of Sutherland where even resident crofters say it is wrong.

Jeremy Gow, who can keep his croft cottage but has been evicted from the surrounding land because he does not live there, said: "We're in the Highland Clearances."
