Dalgety Bay's radioactive beach excavated

Mechanical diggers are being used to excavate 90 pits in Dalgety Bay in Fife to try to establish the source of radioactive contamination.

It is suspected it comes from radioactive paint used to coat the instrument dials of wartime aircraft which were later dumped in the area.

It is hoped the latest tests will provide a better idea of the scale of the problem.
