Baroness Boothroyd: 'Mandela took my hand'

Politicians, musicians and artists have been celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela at a special event in Westminster.

The commemoration took place in Westminster Hall, where Mr Mandela addressed parliamentarians in 1996, when Baroness Boothroyd was Speaker of the House of Commons.

She described how Mr Mandela took her hand and they swept into Westminster Hall together for the start of an important ceremony.

''It was the most memorable moment of my time as Speaker,'' she said.
