David Cameron rules out 'mansion tax'

Prime Minister David Cameron has once again ruled out a so-called "mansion tax" on high-priced properties, if he is still leading the country after the next election.

Coalition partners the Liberal Democrats have long-backed such a policy, emphasising plans to levy a 1% tax on properties over £2m at their recent party conference, and Labour leader Ed Miliband also favours the idea.

Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show, Mr Cameron said: "Stamp duty yes, council tax yes, but I think wealth tax is not sensible for a country that wants to attract wealth creation and wants to reward saving and people who work hard and do the right thing."
