Lord Ashdown urged peers "to act as a bulwark to international law"

The House of Lords has been recalled from its summer recess to debate a chemical weapons attack near Damascus.

MPs are to vote in the House of Commons on a motion which could pave the way for military action in Syria.

It is unlikely there will be a vote in the House of Lords but peers will make a "take note" motion.

Former Lib Dem leader Lord Ashdown urged peers "to act as a bulwark to international law".
