Eamon Gilmore: Republic of Ireland Tánaiste's to resigns as party leader
The Tánaiste (deputy prime minister) in the Republic of Ireland, Eamon Gilmore, has announced he is to resign.
Mr Gilmore told journalists at a press conference in Dublin on Monday afternoon that he would do so, once a successor had been appointed.
It follows anger in the Irish Labour party after disastrous election results.
He said he had the honour to lead the party for the last seven years, but deeply regretted the loss of seats in the recent elections.
Labour are the junior party in Ireland's coalition government,
