Queen jokes about Olympic opening ceremony entrance

The Queen has joked that it took someone of "Irish descent" to get her to "jump from a helicopter", recalling her part in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Speaking at a state banquet for President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, she said that it was Irishman Danny Boyle who devised the dramatic stunt.

The film director convinced the Queen to play herself in a short film at Buckingham Palace, before a stunt double jumped out of the helicopter and landed at the Olympic Stadium.

She also said the Games had helped to show the links between Ireland and Britain, as companies from both countries helped build the stadiums and run the event.
