RSPB Saltholme Nature Reserve founder honoured by prime minister
One of the founders of a Teesside nature reserve has been honoured by David Cameron.
Once earmarked for a nuclear waste dump, when RSPB Saltholme Nature Reserve opened 16 years ago, there were doubts it would work.
However, it has proven a success, attracting 85,000 visitors a year and contributing £1.7m to the local economy, reserve managers said.
Now, one of its founders Dave Kitchen has received a Point of Light Award which honours those who have made a difference to society.
