Safety campaign after drivers ignore Hindhead Tunnel lane closure signs

A road safety campaign has been launched after motorists were found to be ignoring lane closure signs in the Hindhead Tunnel in Surrey.

Drivers have complained that the tunnel, which opened in 2011, has had to be closed regularly - and lane warnings have been frequently ignored.

The UK's longest underground tunnel diverts traffic on the A3 London to Portsmouth road at the Devil's Punch Bowl.

Paul Clifton, BBC South's transport correspondent, spoke to Insp Richard Mallett, from Surrey Police, and Neil Andrew from the Highways Agency.
