Felixstowe beach hut cut in rent rise protest

The owner of a beach hut took dramatic action to protest against a 12% increase in rent.

Alan Sarfas used a mechanical saw to cut 18in (46cm) off the hut at Felixstowe in Suffolk. He said reducing the hut would save him £200 a year as the rents are based on size.

Around 100 beach hut owners were told at a protest meeting that the council had made it clear that there would be no U-turn on the rent increase.

Campaigners argue the increase will hit families and the elderly especially hard.
