Betjeman's Weston-super-Mare poetry

Bird's eye view, a documentary broadcast in 1969 features footage shot in the skies above Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset.

The series aimed to trace the origins of the British seaside with an airborne camera and featured much of the South West.

It was narrated by the poet Sir John Betjeman.

Although the pier has been rebuilt and much of the seafront changed, the summer of '69 was just as soggy as it has been this year.
