London Mayor opens new fire training centre in Beckton

London Mayor Boris Johnson has opened a new fire training centre in east London.

The new centre in Beckton will, for the first time, be privately run, saving London Fire Brigade £66m.

But there have been no new recruits to the fire brigade since 2011, meaning only serving firefighters will receive training there.

BBC London's political correspondent Karl Mercer spoke to London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson and the mayor.
