Plans to overhaul riot damage compensation

A consultation has been launched into the Riot Damages Act in the wake of the riots that affected London and areas across England in 2011.

Home Office Minister Damian Green announced plans to consult on proposed reforms based on the recommendations of an independent review of the legislation.

The review said the claims process needed to be faster and more efficient to ensure smaller businesses were given the help they needed to get back on their feet quickly.

BBC London's Political Correspondent Karl Mercer spoke to business owner Bushra Ahmed, shopkeeper Kanagaratnam Paramanathan and Damian Green.
