Flare washed up on St Annes beach detonated by bomb experts

A giant flare used in Royal Navy exercises found washed up on a Lancashire beach has been destroyed by bomb disposal experts.

The Royal Navy confirmed the device found on St Annes beach near Blackpool is used in exercises involving sea mines and said it may have come loose.

A controlled explosion was carried out at dawn to make the device safe.
