Essex mother fights to sterilise her disabled daughter

The mother of a severely disabled woman has renewed her efforts to have her daughter's womb removed.

It follows a judge's decision earlier this month to approve the sterilisation of a man with severe learning difficulties.

Alison Thorpe's 21-year-old daughter Katie has has the mental age of a six-month-old after being starved of oxygen at birth.

Her mother, from Billericay, in Essex, has long campaigned for her to be allowed a partial hysterectomy because of the great distress caused by her monthly periods.
