Jim Higgins quizzed after clearing Whitehaven path
A grandfather who said he thought he was helping his community by clearing an overgrown cycle path near his home has been interviewed by police.
Jim Higgins, 65, removed brambles, erected a bench and cut down 426ft (130m) of metal railings, which he sold to buy wooden fence posts.
But charity Sustrans, which owns the path near Whitehaven, Cumbria, said he did the work and sold the railings without permission.
The organisation defended contacting the police but added it "very much hoped Mr Higgins will volunteer to work with us".
