Birmingham New Street Station prepares for concourse opening

A new passenger concourse is preparing to open at Birmingham's New Street Station on Sunday morning.

BBC Midlands Today's Peter Plisner watched as workmen put the finishing touches to the building.

It marks the first phase in a £598m redevelopment of the station, which started in 2011.

Network Rail, which operates the station, said the new concourse was much larger and better lit than the existing one, which opened in 1967.

The final phase of work at New Street is due to be completed in 2015.
