Cuadrilla 'not hiding' fracking plans at Balcombe site

Energy company Cuadrilla has told residents in Balcombe, West Sussex, that it will not frack for oil "now or in the future" at its site near the village.

The company said it had found oil at the site, but the nature of the rock meant fracking would not take place.

Francis Egan, Cuadrilla's chief executive, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the company is "not trying to hide" fracking plans for the site.

Referring to the ongoing protests, he said he was glad that they had brought the issue "to the forefront of the national consciousness".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 24 January 2014.
