Derby fire deaths: Philpotts and friend to be sentenced

A couple who killed their six children in a house fire in Derby will be sentenced for manslaughter at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

On Wednesday, barristers representing Mick and Mairead Philpott told the judge that they were "good" parents, and that the children had been loved and "happy".

But the court also heard 56-year-old Philpott had a criminal record and had tried to murder a previous girlfriend.

The Philpotts and their friend, Paul Mosley, were convicted on Tuesday.

Jeremy Cooke reports.
