Motorways are new target for metal thieves

Inside Out investigates why the UK's motorway network has become a magnet for metal thieves.

Metal theft was previously focused on churches and railways, but now criminals are turning their attention to roads where one of their top targets is valuable copper cables.

Motorway metal thefts cost £5.6m across England's motorways in 2011 with three quarters of incidents taking place in the West Midlands, the biggest hotspot.

BBC Inside Out West Midlands is broadcast on Monday, 19 November on BBC One at 19:30 GMT and nationwide on the iPlayer for seven days thereafter.
