The papers: Wednesday's front pages

Broadcaster Lynn Faulds Wood and the president of the YouGov polling organisation Peter Kellner joined the BBC News Channel to review Wednesday's front pages.

They began by discussing coverage of the apparent murder of US journalist Steven Sotloff by Islamic State militants in Syria, in particular the Independent's use of images in comparison with its rivals.

The pair then moved on to the Guardian's front page, which reports the release from custody of British parents who had travelled to Spain to seek treatment for their terminally ill son after the Crown Prosecution Service withdrew an arrest warrant issued amid fears for the boy's health.

They also examined the Financial Times's front page lead about the City of London's reaction to polls suggesting that the referendum on Scottish independence is likely to be a close contest.
