World Cup vote 'should be re-run' if Qatar claims proved
The former attorney general Lord Goldsmith has said that Fifa would have to find a new host country for the 2022 World Cup finals if allegations about bribery and corruption surrounding Qatar's successful bid were proved true.
Lord Goldsmith, who served as a member of Fifa's independent committee on governance which reported a few months ago, told Today programme presenter John Humphrys: "If these allegations are shown to be true, then the hosting decision for Qatar has to be rerun… "
"If it is proved that the decision to give Qatar the World Cup was procured by bribery and improper influence then that decision ought not to stand."
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 2 June.
