Escaped bird killed after being on-the-run

A large South American bird on-the-run in the Home Counties has been killed by a local resident, because he was worried it could cause a car crash.

The bird, similar to an ostrich and which can run at a speed of up to 40mph, escaped from a field where is has been kept as a pet.

Jane Garner, who writes a community newsletter, said it was unnecessary and unkind to shoot the bird.
