Betting shop manager defends 'regulated' industry
The gambling industry is "highly regulated" and addiction is "not as widespread" as believed, a betting shop manager has claimed.
Aidan Connelly, a Gala Coral manager, also said that high streets would be "bleaker" if stores such as his copied other retailers and went online instead.
His comments follow the announcement of government plans to allow local authorities to regulate the number of high street betting shops.
Mr Connelly told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "There are a lot of shops about. But certainly, the companies spend a lot of money and time on staff training... recognising signs of problem gambling."
