Police call for 'leeway' over term-time holidays

Police officers should be allowed to take their children on holiday during term-time, the Police Federation has claimed.

Spokesperson Steve Evans said officers were increasingly being asked to police summer events and were finding it more difficult to get leave.

Mr Evans told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "At a time when a lot of officers simply cannot get leave we think there should be some leeway and some play in the system."

A Department for Education spokesperson said head teachers were already free to grant pupils leave in exceptional circumstances and could to set their own term-times.
