Litter in Britain costs £1bn to clear up

Britain's population has risen by 21% since 1960, but the amount of litter we drop has gone up by a staggering 500%.

Hardly surprising then, that clearing up our rubbish costs more than £1bn a year.

Labour peer and Sixties' icon, Joan Bakewell has toured the country with BBC Panorama to investigate just how big a problem litter is, and what's being done to tackle it.
