Are you still 'shocked by art'?
On 29 May 1913, Stravinsky's Rite of Spring was played for the first time in Paris.
Such was the shock of the new sound that a riot started in the theatre, with rivals attacking each other in the stands and hurling vegetables onto the stage.
Speaking to the Today programme's James Naughtie, Angela Dixon, head of music at the Barbican in London, and the BBC's arts editor Will Gompertz discussed whether any art has the capacity to shock to the same extent today.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 29 May 2013.
