'Vicious' Moran captured in Spain

One of Britain's most wanted fugitives is due in court in Madrid after being arrested at a luxury villa on Spain's Costa Blanca.

Andrew Moran, 31, from Salford, Greater Manchester, was arrested by police in the resort of Alicante, in Calpe, on Friday.

He is set to be extradited to the UK, where he is wanted over an armed robbery in 2005.

Moran was convicted in his absence after fleeing during his trial in 2009.

Detective Superintendent John Lyons of the North West's organised crime unit told Today presenter John Humphrys that Moran "has been involved in much wider organised crime than simply conspiracy to rob".

He said that they first tried to capture him in Spain just before Christmas.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Monday 13 May 2013.
