Pork DNA found in primary school halal meat supplies
A primary school in Westminster where traces of Pork DNA were found in halal chicken sausages had received assurances from its suppliers over the integrity of its meat, the council's Director of Children's Services has confirmed.
Andrew Christie said the authority decided to carry out its own tests in the wake of the horse meat scandal. The contaminated meat was found in samples from St Mary's Bryanston Square.
Tests on a sample from Burdett Coutts School also revealed the presence of lamb and pork DNA in lean minced beef. The items have been removed from all school meals.
Mr Christie said an advice line would be available for concerned parents from 0800 GMT on Friday: 020 7745 6401.
