Francis Maude on Tory attitudes to homosexuals
Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude talked to Newsnight's Kirsty Wark after MPs voted to approve same-sex marriage in England and Wales in a key Commons vote, despite opposition from almost half of Conservative MPs.
In the interview Mr Maude emphasised that many Conservatives backed same-sex marriage, but also said that some parts of the Conservative party were "a few paces behind prevailing social attitudes". However, he said that over time attitudes change and that he believes that in years to come people will struggle to see why the move proved so controversial.
