Big Issue founder: Birmingham deaths a 'terrible tragedy'
The founder of the Big Issue, John Bird, has said that the death of two sellers of the publication, who were stabbed in front of shoppers in Birmingham city centre, was a "terrible tragedy".
Officers said hundreds of people may have witnessed the stabbings in Union Street at about 17:50 GMT on Friday.
The first man was stabbed outside Sainsbury's and the second was found slumped outside Boots' side entrance.
Mr Bird appealed for witnesses to come forward and said homeless victims "should not be outside the protection of the law".
