HMRC calls 'cost taxpayers millions' last year

Phoning the tax office and waiting to speak to an adviser cost callers more than £130m last year, according to the National Audit Office.

It also found that 20 million calls to HM Revenue and Customs went unanswered, with millions of other people facing long waits.
