Peterlee angler swept out to sea dies in hospital

A 33-year-old fisherman from Peterlee who was pulled from the water after he was swept out to sea on Saturday has died, police have confirmed.

The man and a fellow-angler were in a fast flowing stream on Becketts Bank, in Horden, County Durham, when the incident happened.

In a separate incident 15 anglers were rescued by the Coastguard after a wave hit Roker Pier in Sunderland.
