High winds and blizzards sweep UK

Powerful storms have caused severe disruption across much of Britain.

A motorist was killed when a tree collapsed on his van in Kent.

And a sailor was killed after his vessel was hit by a large wave in the English Channel.

Winds of up to 100mph have left tens of thousands without power in Scotland and parts of England and Northern Ireland.
