Gale-force winds sweep Scotland

Gale-force winds sweeping in from the Atlantic are causing widespread disruption in Scotland.

Hundreds of schools have closed already and more are shutting their gates this lunchtime.

Thousands of people are without electricity in Argyll and the Western Isles.

Police are advising against all travel in Central Scotland and Lothian and Borders - with winds of more than a hundred miles an hour reported.

The bad weather is expected to head south later this afternoon.
