Unemployment hits 17 year high

Unemployment has risen sharply to a total of 2.57million - the highest level in 17 years.

Almost a million of those are young people as more jobs are being lost in the public sector than are being created in the private sector.

David Cameron admits the government needs to do more to get the economy "moving," but insists it will stick to its plans to reduce the deficit.
