Government blamed for council cuts

Government spending cuts are being blamed as Manchester City Council decided to cut 2000 jobs.

Almost one in five council workers in Manchester will lose their jobs in the next year.

Manchester City Council says a total of two thousand jobs will go, that is 17% of its workforce.

The Labour-run authority said it needed to make the cuts after changes to local authority grants left a big hole in its finances.
