'Self-assembling' materials made from 4D printing on show at TED2013

Architect, designer and MIT computer scientist Skylar Tibbits demonstrated a 4D printed material which appears to self-assemble at the TED2013 conference.

The 'cube self-folding strand' design was developed by Tibbits together with Stratasys. The 4D printing technology creates a long string of multiple materials, which then appear to self-assemble into various shapes when placed in water.
