Stafford NHS Trust: Neighbouring hospitals 'need funding'
The health secretary will announce later whether he is accepting a recommendation to close the trust that runs Stafford Hospital.
Under proposals approved by health watchdog Monitor, control of Stafford Hospital would go to the neighbouring University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust (UHNS).
But Calum Paton, former UHNS chairman, has told the Today programme that the university hospital must be provided with the "capital" and "running costs" to ensure it can cope with new demand.
First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 26 February.
