Day care gives hope to disabled in Sri Lanka

People with disabilities in Sri Lanka rarely get the help they need. Traditionally many are kept out of sight, or in some of the worst cases left to die.

In this mainly Buddhist and Hindu country many believe disability is a punishment for wrongdoing in a former life.

But in Nuwara Eliya, one of the island's poorest districts, a British-Sri Lankan couple run an organisation that aims to transform the lives of disabled people by providing comprehensive day care.

Health Check's Charles Haviland visited the Sri Lankan hill country to find out more.
