New seal flu virus found in seals 'could affect humans'

Experts say a flu virus identified in American harbour seals has the potential to pass to other mammals, including humans.

The H3N8 strain was discovered after the death of 162 New England harbour seals in 2011.

The warning has been published in the online journal of the American Society for Microbiology and report co-author Dr Ian Lipkin, from the Center for Infection and Immunity of Columbia University, spoke to 5 liveMorning Reports.
