'Stalin-era witch hunt' at Bolshoi

One of the Bolshoi Ballet's principal dancers - who has been questioned by police about an acid attack on the company's artistic director - has accused the Bolshoi's managers of trying to discredit him.

In an interview with the BBC, Nikolai Tsiskaridze called on the Russian government to intervene.

The BBC's Moscow correspondent Steve Rosenberg explains that the latest claims and counterclaims plunge the Bolshoi into further turmoil.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme on Friday 8 February 2013.
