Care for children 'was better decades ago'

Education Secretary Michael Gove has attacked official regulations which see troubled children sent to "far-flung" children's homes.

His comments came as a Department for Education report revealed there are 16 councils which place all their children outside their own local authority area.

David Akinsanya grew up in care and now fosters children who have spent time in homes.

He spoke to the BBC about the problems faced by children who have no stability in their lives and said that the system was better decades ago when he was in care.

"They are being looked after but they are not being cared for", he added.
