What can we learn from the French childcare model?

In January the Children's Minister Liz Truss announced that nurseries and childminders in England would be allowed to look after more children.

She said the proposals would make more childcare places available and reduce costs for parents in the "long term". Ms Truss said the changes - due to come into force in the autumn - would bring the UK in line with countries such as France and Sweden.

Newsnight reporter Allegra Stratton has embarked on a research expedition into early years education to find out if we can learn a lesson from across the Channel.
