Georgia police use tear gas to clear protesters

Riot police in Georgia have used tear gas and water cannon to break up anti-government protesters outside the parliament building in Tbilisi, ahead of independence day celebrations on Thursday.

The demonstrators are calling for President Mikhail Saakashvili to step down, accusing him of monopolising power and failing to tackle poverty.

Damien McGuinness reports.
