Isle of Man teacher abuse victims relieved at justice

The victims of an Isle of Man teacher who has been jailed for rape and indecent assault have released a statement to express their relief at the sentence.

Davoud Taghinejad, 58, who committed the crimes between 2011 and 2013, has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and will be added to the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

The assaults involved five girls, aged between 13 and 17 at the time.

Paula Gelling of Victim Support, speaking on behalf of the victims and their families, said: "We trusted him as our teacher. As well as the severe mental anguish this has caused us all, our education has suffered. "

Det Con Emily Perkins describing the victims as 'brave' said that the Isle of Man Constabulary are committed to investigating any matter that is reported to them.
