Landslip closes A498 between Beddgelert and Pen-y-Pass

Landslip The landslip had followed a prolonged period of heavy rain

A main road in Snowdonia has been closed after a landslip covered it in about 30 tonnes of debris.

The A498 is shut both ways between Beddgelert and Penygwryd while attempts are made to clear the carriageway, said Gwynedd Council.

Officers are said to be using specialised equipment to remove debris and carry out safety inspections on the site.

The road is expected to remain shut for "a number of hours".

The council said the landslip had followed a prolonged period of heavy rain.
