The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, delighted delegates at the Liberal Democrat conference by describing himself as "a mere pleb".
His comments poked fun at his cabinet colleague, Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell, who has denied using the word pleb to police officers who blocked his exit from Downing Street.
