A man has appeared in court accused of the murder of a young chef, after a car crash in Cardiff.

Stephen Freye, 22, was arrested after father-of-one Kyle Griffith, 25, was fatally injured in James Street, Butetown, early on Tuesday.

Mr Freye, of Pentwyn, Cardiff is charged with murder and causing death by dangerous driving.

He was remanded in custody at Cardiff Magistrates' Court and will appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 23 January.

He spoke only to confirm his name, age, and address during the brief hearing.

Mr Griffith, who lived in Cardiff Bay, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales after the incident but he later died.

Detectives are still appealing for witnesses to the incident in James Street or anyone who may have seen a P-registration blue Fiat Cinquecento car prior to the collision.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
